hard decision

Last night was supposed to be the first class of my ComedySportz 103 workshop. I didn't go.

It took me a while to come to this decision. The 101 and 102 workshops were quite fun and were one of the few things that kept me sane the past couple of months. When you have trouble enjoying what you do eight hours a day, it's nice having an outlet where you can feel like you are being yourself. My outlet was the workshops.

We, we being everyone that took 102, fought to have the workshop moved from Wednesdays to Mondays. If it would have stayed on Wednesdays, there was no way I could have done it. Kickball and all that. So we were all excited about them changing the workshops to Monday.

It was last week that I realized that two of my vacations I have coming up bring me back home on either Tuesday or late Monday. I would miss two of the classes for the workshop, and when you only have seven classes to begin with, that's a high percentage. We had a few people miss two classes in 102, and I could see the effect that had on their abilities in class. So I decided to postpone my taking 103 until September.

Unfortunately, that means I won't be seeing those mugs I've gotten used to seeing on Mondays. I'll also have to learn a new set of names, which has never been one of my strong suits. I would be lying however, if I didn't say that improvving with new people doesn't have its appeal.

But I'm still a little sad that I'm not doing it right now. Good thing kickball starts next week.

winnie

I think I'm in love. Danica McKellar, everyone's first famous crush (one of mine, at least) is a math geek.

aaron go bragh

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! It's now about 5:35 am and I'm heading out to enjoy a few early morning drinks with some Irish friends of mine.

I love multiculturalism!

My friend Al hooked me up with a link to one of the best music videos ever for a song sung from the point of view of Buffalo Bill. It's also a very catchy song.

Check it: http://www.undergroundfilm.org/films/detail.tcl?wid=1014958

It's by the Greenskeepers. A bunch of raving nutters if ever there was a bunch.

random thoughts

Just some random thoughts that I had this morning, up until I got to work. Everyone knows after that my brain shuts down.

Jay-Z may have 99 problems, and a bitch ain't one, but if I started call any of the women I know bitches, I would soon have at least one more problem.

De La Soul Is Dead is still a great album, even after 14 years.

Forgot my yogurt. Again.

Not locker 10 please. It's right next to that meathead that can't seem to understand that there are lockers on either side of him.

Why does every weight room I've ever been in seem to play 80's hair metal?

Why is that guy grunting like he's hoisting mucho weight over his head while all he's really doing is using the elliptical machine?

Now he's yelling at the tv.

I've heard you tell that joke 6 times this morning. "Next time I'll ask for a speaking part." Now I know what Al felt like when he kept hearing my underage drinking citation story.

It is amazing how many men tuck their t-shirts into their underwear.

lousy smarch weather

It got up to 55 degrees today, which was a nice respite from the cold.

Being the true Wisconsonite I am, I did what every one else did and headed to the lake.

hardy har har

Our ComedySportz 102 workshop show was last night. I think it went pretty well, at least the games I was in.

I ended up playing Dimestore Novel*, which was a game that I didn't really like playing in class. It went well, even if I was supposed to be a frog with a lisp, and I didn't get the lisp until about my third or fourth line. We didn't play the Da Doo Ron Ron**, so I didn't get my rematch against Matt. I wasn't in any of the rhyming games in fact, so I was a bit disappointed about that.

But every game I was in went well, at least as far as I could tell. My friend Jeff taped it all, so I'll have to review the tape and see how it went.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and laughed. Even if you didn't stick around and buy me a drink afterwards.

*Dimestore Novel
One improviser sits at an imaginary 'typewriter', typing a story, while the other actors act out the story. Both actors and typist are responsible for endowing the story with narrative line.

**Da Doo Ron Ron
A singalong elimination game. A one-syllable name is taken from the audience, the players line up, and based on the rhythm of the song, the singing moves down the line as each player must rhyme the suggested name with other words. Example: Matt rhymes with at, that, bat, cat, fat, splat. If the player is unable to rhyme the name, repeats a rhyme, or messes up the rhythm of the song, he/she is out. When this happens, a new name is selected from the audience. Last team standing wins.

A lot of other games are described here.
