birthday

It seems utterly too coincidental that my 30th blog entry is about my 30th birthday, which happened on the 30th. But that's the way things happen sometimes.

So yes, I am now 30. Or as someone quite harshly put it to me in one the emails I received, I am now beginning my fourth decade of life. Not the best way to start your day, even if it is your first day of your fourth decade.

The one-third life crisis happened a few weeks ago, so that was over. It consisted of mostly moping and complaining. So it wasn't much different from other days.

The big extravaganza happened a few days before my actual birthday. It was quite fun, as the following invite shows:

As some of you may know, I will soon be celebrating the third year anniversary of my 27th birthday.

To mark this momentous occasion, I would like to drink beer, eat some food and
watch some music being made. Luckily for me, I have a plan to do all three. I
only need you to tell me if you want in.

Step 1) Drink beer
This will be done aboard the Milwaukee River "Brew City Queen". You can read
about it: http://www.cafevecchio.com/riverwalkboat/tours/
The tour I am planning on taking starts at the Rock Bottom Brewery. The cost
is $15 per person. This is the last cruise of the year. We need to get the
seats in advance, so tell me by Thursday if you can make it.

Step 2) Eat Some Food
When we get off the boat the Rock Bottom, we go in and eat. Simple!

Step 3) Watch Some Music
Mississippi Cactus is playing Mad Planet that night. They make good drinks
there. http://www.onmilwaukee.com/bars/business/madplanet.html

So when is all this happening? Saturday, September 27th, that's when. The
riverboat tour starts at 1:05 pm at Rock Bottom Brewery. Food eating will
begin around 5. And then watching music begins whenever digestion has reached
a comfortable level.

Let me know by Thursday if you would like to come on the boat with me. I will
be getting the tickets then, and anyone else will have to swim alongside. Of
course, you can join the extravaganza at any time. If there is someone I
missed, let them know.

For anyone who can't make it, there will be a mini-vaganza at volleyball on the
30th, my actual birthday. This will consist of sitting around and getting a
few pitchers, much like any other volleyball night. Feel free to stop by the
Tracks if you want.

That is all.

We did almost of the stuff planned, except for going to the Mad Planet. Turns out that was okay, because the band I wanted to see wasn't there anyway.

Nothing too out of the ordinary happened on the big day. I played volleyball as usual. Drank some beers there.

And now I'm 30 years and 1 day. Feels pretty much the same as the most of the days that came before it.

Except for all the gray hair.
